Stop for a bush picnic lunch in the wild and continue afternoon exploration around Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek.

Day 04:Southern Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Enjoy an early morning dawn game drive capturing golden-hour photography of calves and predators on the prowl. The 5-Day Serengeti Wildebeest Birthing Tour is an exclusive wildlife adventure centered on the Great Migration birthing grounds in Ndutu and Southern Serengeti between January and March. You'll witness hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, thousands of newborn calves born daily, apex predator hunts, Tarangire elephants, and the Ngorongoro Crater.
The prime window is from January through March, with peak birthing activity happening in February. During this synchronized 3-week peak, over 8,000 calves are born every single day across the open southern savanna.
The short grass plains of Southern Serengeti and Ndutu are enriched by ancient volcanic ash, producing high-calcium, nutrient-dense grasses that help pregnant females lactate and provide young calves with the minerals needed for swift bone development.
The birthing season brings about the most intense predator action in Africa. You have superior opportunities to observe cheetahs chasing prey at top speeds, lion prides hunting on the open plains, leopards hiding in acacia trees, and clans of spotted hyenas active throughout the day.
We provide comfortable mid-range safari lodges and mobile tented camps located right in the heart of the migration paths in Ndutu and the Serengeti. Accommodations feature en-suite private bathrooms with hot running water, flushing toilets, comfortable beds with mosquito nets, and fresh chef-prepared meals.
Yes! In the Ndutu section under the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, regulated off-road driving is permitted with our licensed guides, allowing you to follow wildlife across the plains and get close to newborn calves and predator hunts.
You will travel in a custom-built 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser featuring a large pop-up roof for 360-degree photography, power charging sockets, cooler boxes with cold drinks, and guaranteed window seating for every traveler (maximum 4 to 6 guests per vehicle).
Pack lightweight, breathable safari clothing in neutral colors (khaki, beige, olive), a warm sweater or jacket for early morning drives, a sun hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, binoculars, camera with a telephoto zoom lens, extra batteries, and insect repellent.
Yes, it is extremely family-friendly. The high density of wildlife and constant sightings of baby animals keep children engaged throughout each drive. Family rooms and interconnected tents are available.
