Absolutely! This family safari is specifically designed for families with children of all ages. We offer age-appropriate activities, child-friendly game drives (shorter durations with fun breaks), family rooms at lodges, and children's menus. Our guides are experienced in entertaining kids while educating them about wildlife. Children under 12 receive discounted rates (30-50% off) and each child gets a Junior Ranger certificate and gift pack upon completion. Safety is our priority - all vehicles have seat belts, and we adjust game drive times to suit your family's needs. We recommend this safari for children aged 4 and above, but younger children are welcome with parental supervision.
This family safari offers incredible wildlife viewing across three spectacular locations. Tarangire is famous for massive elephant herds (hundreds visible during dry season), ancient baobab trees, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest. Lake Manyara features tree-climbing lions (a rare sight!), large baboon troops (thousands), hippos, flamingos, and over 400 bird species. Serengeti is home to lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, elephants, zebras, wildebeest (Great Migration depending on season), and over 500 bird species. Your children will see elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and many colorful birds - a fantastic wildlife experience for the whole family. Our guides know where to find animals that particularly appeal to children's interests, like playful lion cubs and baby elephants.
We partner with family-friendly lodges and tented camps that cater specifically to families. Accommodations feature family rooms with two bedrooms or interconnecting rooms (ideal for parents and children), children's menus, swimming pools (kids love the pool after game drives), and safe outdoor play areas. Tented camps offer an authentic bush experience with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, private bathrooms, and hot water. Many lodges have knowledgeable staff who entertain children with cultural activities like Maasai dance lessons and bracelet making. This 5-day itinerary includes stays at three different lodge/camp locations, each with its own character and family-friendly features.
Yes! Lake Manyara is world-famous for its tree-climbing lions - a rare behavior seen consistently in this park. Lions here regularly climb and rest in acacia trees, a phenomenon rarely observed elsewhere in Africa (only a couple of other locations in Uganda and Kenya have similar behavior). While sightings are common (estimated 60-70% success rate), it's not guaranteed as lion behavior varies daily. The best time to see them is during the dry season (June-October) when they spend more time in trees for cooling off. Early morning and late afternoon game drives offer the best chances. Even if lions are not climbing, the park offers excellent birdlife (400+ species), elephants, hippos, and spectacular scenery along the lake and groundwater forest that children will love.
Yes! We've designed this safari with children in mind. Activities include: Junior Ranger Program with wildlife tracking lessons, animal spotting competitions with prizes, Maasai village visit where children can learn traditional games and dancing, interactive sessions about animal tracks and droppings (kids find this fascinating!), star-gazing sessions with stories about African constellations, and cooking lessons learning to make traditional Tanzanian snacks like mandazi (local donuts). Each child receives an activity pack with binoculars, animal checklists, coloring books, and a Junior Ranger certificate upon completion. These activities are optional - your family can choose what interests you most.
The best time for a family safari is during the dry season from June to October when wildlife is abundant and easy to spot. The weather is pleasant with clear skies, making game drives comfortable for children. The Great Migration is most dramatic from July to September. The green/wet season (November-May) offers lush green landscapes, spectacular birdlife, fewer tourists (quieter parks), and lower prices, though some roads may be muddy and afternoon showers possible. For families with school-age children, we recommend June-September for predictable weather and peak wildlife viewing. Book at least 3-4 months in advance for peak season. We also offer special family discounts for travel during April-May low season.
We use customized 4x4 safari vehicles (Toyota Land Cruisers) with pop-up roofs for excellent game viewing and photography. For families, we ensure a maximum of 4-6 people per vehicle, so everyone (including children) gets a window seat with good viewing angles. Vehicles are equipped with charging ports for electronics, cool boxes for drinks and snacks, and two-way radios for communication between guides. Families can request a private vehicle at no extra charge for groups of 4+, ensuring personalized attention and flexibility for bathroom breaks or shorter game drives when children need a break. All vehicles have seat belts for every passenger and are regularly serviced for safety. Child car seats are available upon request.
Recommended items for families include: neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, beige - avoid white and bright colors), layers for cool mornings/evenings (temperatures can drop to 10°C/50°F), comfortable walking shoes for children, sun hats for everyone, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent (child-safe - we recommend natural options for children), binoculars (we have child-sized rentals), camera, power bank, children's favorite snacks (for picky eaters), reusable water bottles, personal medications, toiletries, and a small daypack. For children, pack their favorite comfort items (small toy, book, tablet for downtime). Pack in soft-sided bags (not hard suitcases) for easier vehicle storage. Most lodges have laundry services, so pack for 3-4 days and wash as needed.
Most international visitors require a visa to enter Tanzania, including children. Visas can be obtained online through the official Tanzania eVisa system (recommended, processing takes 5-10 business days, apply at least 2 weeks before travel) or upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for most nationalities (cash payment only, USD - have exact amounts ready). Single entry tourist visas cost $50 USD for most nationalities ($100 for US citizens). Children need their own individual visas. Several countries are visa-exempt including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and some other African nations. Check current requirements before traveling. We recommend using the eVisa system to avoid queues at the airport, especially with children. We can provide visa assistance upon request.
Cancellations made 30+ days before departure receive a full refund minus a 10% processing fee. Cancellations made 15-29 days before departure receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made less than 14 days before departure receive no refund. We offer free date changes up to 14 days before departure, subject to availability and applicable park fee changes. Travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical evacuation, and medical expenses is highly recommended (required for some nationalities). Children under 12 receive the same cancellation terms, but we're flexible with family emergencies - please contact us to discuss your situation. We also offer a 'peace of mind' policy allowing one free date change for families with children under 12. This gives you flexibility if family schedules change.
